Awarded to:
Sierra Nevada World Music Festival
and
Reggae on the River

The meaning of NorCal Reggae Calendar's Legacy Festival Achievement Award can be explained by unraveling the definition of these words. A Legacy Festival is an annual celebration with an underlying gift that is transmitted from producers and artists to patrons and volunteers, and then is further transferred to the rest of the natural world.

leg·a·cy   noun

    1. something that happened or comes from the past.
    2. gift by will (love, peace, and music in this case)
    3. something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor

fes·ti·val   noun

    1. an annual celebration
    2. a day or period of celebration
    3. an organized series of concerts held in the same place.

To be considered for the Legacy Festival award, the gift must be love and the message is peace. A Legacy Festival must stand the test of time. It will adapt, persevere in the face of hardship, stand up to adversity, and challenge discrimination. Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and Reggae on the River possess these qualities and so much more! In honor of the two distinct and irreplaceable legacy festivals that take place annually in Northern California, we give thanks for SNWMF and ROTR.
